IAEE Predict 2025 unveils global digital strategy for MICE industry evolution

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events concluded its inaugural IAEE Predict 2025: Global Digital Innovation Dialogue for Events, presenting a framework for the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry to address digital transformation.

The conference at Hangzhou International Conference Center was co-located with the Global Digital Trade Expo and produced with Hangzhou City University, the university's Digital Innovation Center of Global Events and Hangzhou Expo Group.

"IAEE Predict 2025 delivered extensive dialogue and reflected a collaborative spirit toward shaping the future of business events," said IAEE President and CEO Marsha Flanagan. "The strategic partnerships and solutions explored will have an impact on how we create value for attendees, exhibitors and the MICE ecosystem."

The Digital Innovation Center of Global Events released industry research during the opening ceremony, providing data on trends expected to affect the MICE sector through 2030.

Sessions addressed artificial intelligence implementation in exhibition operations, marketing strategies and attendee engagement. Discussions covered sustainable development practices and digital talent development for organizations.

A China-U.S. exhibition industry dialogue session facilitated knowledge exchange on regional market dynamics and partnership opportunities.

Business events inject £11.5 billion into the UK economy: Events Industry Alliance

The UK business events industry generated £11.5 billion ($15.4 billion) in business sales in 2024, according to an Economic Impact Study by the Events Industry Alliance (EIA).

The study, which covers conferences and exhibitions, shows the sector has exceeded pre-pandemic levels and grown from £10.9 billion ($14.6 billion) in 2023.

Key figures:

  • £11.5 billion ($15.4 billion) added to the UK economy
  • 6% growth in economic contribution over two years
  • 126,000 jobs supported
  • 7.2 million visitors attracted to the UK annually
  • 1,145 exhibitions held in 2024
  • £6.0 billion ($8.0 billion) contribution to gross domestic product
  • £87,000 ($117,000) average output per exhibitor

The findings were announced at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool at an EIA-sponsored event titled "Backing British Events: A Growth Sector for Labour's Economy."

"The report quantifies the economic significance of exhibitions in the UK and shows the industry has now exceeded pre-covid contributions," said Rachel Swann, chief operating officer of the energy division at dmg events and EIA chair. "The industry proves its resilience year on year but still needs support and recognition from the Government."

The study incorporates data from the Size and Scale Index for Exhibitions report published earlier this year. The 132,000 exhibiting companies and 7.2 million visitors generated spending in hospitality, travel and hotels.

Rachel Parker, CEO of AEV and EIA director, said the sector's organizers, venues and suppliers "support other areas of the economy further emphasising the impact of the business events industry."
